Since cannabis has become legal in several states, more and more has come to light about its impact on users – and society. Chemicals in cannabis impact both the bodies and social lives of users.
Dr. Cynthia, a who has studied the situation, feels it is important to share with the public the problems with cannabis use, in this video specifically “Cannabis Use Disorder,” or CUD. (NOTE: This video focuses on CUD and how to recognize it. In other videos we plan to cover the short-term and long-term effects of cannabis, such as “cannabis hyperemesis syndrome,” paranoia, etc.)
The SHOCKING STATISTICS show that: 26% of Americans 18-26 currently use marijuana, 17% of them have CUD, and 7% of the overall American population have CUD – with numbers today probably even higher.
So, what is CUD? It is medically described as “a problematic pattern that has clinical significance or disrupts the user’s life in a negative way.”
In this video we share with you the OFFICIAL LIST of 11 CRITERIA or features, for CUD. Having only 2 of these 11 criteria over the last 12 months are enough to make the diagnosis of CUD (see video for the chart).
With such a high percentage of the American population now having CUD, no doubt people that you live with or associate with daily have CUD. Think about this and how you might bring it to their attention. Most importantly, consider what cannabis might be doing to you, or your loved ones.
Dr. C joins with other health care workers who want to bring greater awareness of CUD and its features, especially parents, so that we can have a healthier and safer society.
